Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Open Geospatial Solutions handles information for the Open Geospatial Solutions OAuth application and related OpenGeoS tools, notebooks, plugins, and web applications.
Purpose of the Application
Open Geospatial Solutions provides open-source geospatial software and web applications for mapping, data access, catalog exploration, and geospatial analysis. When a tool uses Google OAuth, it asks users to sign in with Google so the tool can access only the Google services and data that the user explicitly authorizes for that workflow.
Information We Collect
Depending on the OpenGeoS tool being used and the permissions granted by the user, the application may receive:
- Basic Google account information needed for sign-in, such as name, email address, and profile identifier.
- OAuth access tokens or refresh tokens needed to perform user-authorized actions.
- User-authorized Google service data required by the selected geospatial workflow, such as files, datasets, project metadata, or other resources made available through the specific Google API scopes approved by the user.
- Technical information needed to operate and improve the service, such as browser, device, error, and usage information.
How We Use Information
Information is used only to:
- Authenticate the user.
- Provide the geospatial tool, plugin, notebook, or web application requested by the user.
- Access Google APIs and user-authorized data for the specific workflow the user initiated.
- Maintain, secure, debug, and improve OpenGeoS services.
- Communicate with users about support, security, or service-related matters when needed.
We do not sell user data. We do not use Google user data for advertising.
Google API Data
Open Geospatial Solutions’ use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Google user data is accessed only after the user grants permission through Google’s OAuth consent flow. Users can revoke access at any time from their Google Account permissions page.
Sharing and Disclosure
We do not share user data except:
- When needed to provide the requested OpenGeoS service or workflow.
- With service providers that help operate, host, secure, or maintain the application.
- When required by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable government request.
- To protect the rights, security, and integrity of users, OpenGeoS services, or the public.
Data Retention
We retain user data only for as long as needed to provide the requested service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, maintain security, or improve reliability. OAuth tokens and cached workflow data may be deleted when no longer required or when access is revoked, subject to backup and operational retention limits.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect user information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to limit access to authorized use and reduce unnecessary data retention.
User Choices
Users may stop using the application at any time. Users may revoke Open Geospatial Solutions’ Google OAuth access from their Google Account permissions page. Users may also contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information where applicable.
